Knockout Competitions
The Knockout Shield, introduced in 1996, was played for by teams in every division, the inaugural winners being Kingsthorpe ‘A’. For many years the winners inevitably came from Division 1 as smaller clubs could not compete with the stronger squads of this division.
In 2023, club president of West End Bowls Club, Alan Ashby, submitted a proposal to the AGM for a new competition called the Knockout Trophy. The submission proposed that the Knockout Shield would be played for by Division 1 teams only with the remaining teams in Divisions 2-5 playing for the Trophy, sponsored by Alan personally. Medals for the winning team for the first three years have also been sponsored by Alan.
The proposal was unanimously accepted and the Knockout Trophy was introduced. The inaugural winners were Kettering Lodge.
